Harry Hickton will look to put himself in the box seat of the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE Trophy title race this weekend (21-22 September) as the one-make series prepares to take centre stage at the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone.
With the 2024 campaign edging ever-closer to a thrilling crescendo, the penultimate round of the season sees the tin top category make its final appearance on the British Touring Car Championship support bill - and for Hickton it’s all very much still to play for.
The Westbourne Motorsport driver tallied his eighth podium of the year less than two weeks ago at Croft and goes into this weekend sitting second in the Drivers’ Championship, just four points off the standings summit.
Hickton - who is backed by Hysons Chartered Accountants, The Platinum Lift Company, Vernham Labels, Addventure, Woodstock, Hippo Campers and Brandfixx – is also firmly in contention for the Graduate Cup as well, sitting ten points off the lead as it stands.
Aiming to ensure that he heads into the Brands Hatch season finale in November in contention for both coveted crowns, the 18-year-old is ready to go on maximum attack in front of what will no doubt be a bumper trackside crowd this weekend.
“I’m feeling good heading into this weekend,” said Hickton. “There’s no denying that the past two events have been a real rollercoaster but we’ve managed to come out the other side of them in a good spot and remain in the mix at the top of the standings.
“We’ve shown that we have great speed in the car and that’s a testament to all of the hard work that Westbourne Motorsport continue to put in. I’m confident that we should have a strong all-round package at Silverstone, especially down the long straights.
“There are just six races left to run so now isn’t the time to make a mistake. I know that I need to be at the top of my game and the aim is to be on the front-foot and see if we can come away with more wins and podiums.”
Qualifying at Silverstone commences on Saturday at 10:35 with race one following later that afternoon at 15:00. Races two and three will then follow on Sunday at 10:40 and 15:45; with the latter being broadcast LIVE on ITV4.
