Harry Hickton maintained his consistent start to the Power Maxed MINI CHALLENGE JCW season this past weekend (May 23-24) as he bounced back from a challenging qualifying to score points in all three races.

On what proved to be a scorching visit to the Norfolk venue, the Mannpower Motorsport driver got his elbows out and battled forward to ensure that he remains in the hunt for the coveted Drivers’ Championship.

The 19-year-old came out of the blocks flying during Friday’s practice sessions as he featured towards the top of the times throughout the day which rightfully left him brimming with confidence ahead of qualifying on Saturday.

Unfortunately, a small issue prevented the former MINI CHALLENGE Trophy title winner from replicating his front-running form, with ninth being the best that he could manage around the near three-mile circuit.

Not to be deterred from starting out of position though, Hickton was a man on a mission in the opening race later that afternoon and he was able to make his way forward to bank valuable points in fifth position.

The Hampshire racer was a constant presence for the podium places in race two as well and crossed the line in fifth, however that quickly became eighth after he was hit with a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits one too many times.

Hickton closed out his weekend with another sublime performance as he this time went from eighth on the grid to fifth, although had he potentially had a lap or two more it could have well been a podium.

Harry Hickton: “On the whole its been a positive weekend I’d say. Snetterton is a circuit I’ve always loved and we looked to be in a great shape on Friday; sadly though a small issue prevented us from really showing our hand in qualifying.

“To bounce back though with two fifth place finishes and an eighth isn’t too bad. The car really came alive in that final race and I think if we had had a few more laps I could have been well inside the top three.

“Everything is moving in the right direction though and I think if we can iron out a few little kinks then there is no reason why we can’t be fighting for wins and podiums. Oulton Park is next so we’ll get our heads down and chase some more big results in a couple of weeks.”

The Power Maxed MINI CHALLENGE JCW heads to Oulton Park on June 6-7.
