Harry Hickton has promised to be on maximum attack at Silverstone this weekend (20-21 September) as he continues his pursuit of a long overdue and deserved maiden Vertu MINI CHALLENGE JCW victory.
Taking centre stage at the Home of British Motor Racing for the penultimate event of the season, the Mannpower Motorsport driver is fired up to bounce back from what was a heartbreaking outing at Knockhill last month.
There, the 19-year-old produced a sensational display which culminated in him leading race three and looking on course to triumph, only to be unceremoniously wiped out of contention. The end result left him leaving Scotland with two Rookie Cup wins and a trio of top-five finishes.
Now having had time to take stock of just how close he came to prevailing in the premier class of MINI CHALLENGE, the Hampshire-based teenager is ready to be unleashed around one of the most famous race circuits in the world.
For Hickton - who represents Maber Construction, Hysons Chartered Accountants, The Platform Lift Company, Vernham Labels, Woodstock Plumbing and Heating Supplies, MDH Roofing & Son, Vertex VT Consultants, GSF Car Parts and DPH Services - there is only one target too.
Harry Hickton: “To come oh-so close to my first JCW win at Knockhill was a tough pill to swallow however that’s in the past and all I’m focusing on now is making sure we have a strong showing at Silverstone.
“The National layout is a unique challenge as there are only a few corners and three long straights, so that means the action is going to be super-close and slip-streaming will be hugely important.
“I think at Croft and Knockhill we’ve demonstrated we have the pace to run right at the very front and I don’t see why that can’t continue this weekend. The whole team has worked really hard to unlock more from the car and I’ve done the same from a driving perspective.
“Realistically I want to be on that podium, preferably the top step too. We’re at the business end of the season now and I want to be able to sign off the year in style - starting at Silverstone. It’s gonna be a case of elbows out and let’s get stuck in!”
Qualifying at Silverstone goes down at 09:00 on Saturday before races one and two take place later that afternoon at 13:30 and 17:25. One more race - at 12:25 - will follow on Sunday, with coverage being broadcast live on ITV4 and ITVX.
