Harry Hickton Ready To Fly High As MINI CHALLENGE Heads To Knockhill

Harry Hickton is targeting a return to the podium this coming weekend (August 8-9) as the Power Maxed MINI CHALLENGE JCW Championship continues its season north of the border at Knockhill in Scotland.

Returning to action following the series’ annual summer break, Hickton - who is now running under the EXCELR8 Motorsport banner - sets course for the notoriously tight and twisty 1.27-mile circuit looking to re-establish himself as a front-running contender.

Prior to the mid-season break, the 20-year-old had shown plenty of pace and potential across the opening four meetings of the year - although he found himself on the receiving end of contact through no fault of his own on several occasions.

Despite scoring a hard-fought podium finish at Brands Hatch, the Hampshire racer has had to time to reflect on what could have been in recent weeks; and now he’s fired up to ensure he claims what he feels like he rightfully deserves.

As always, Hickton will bid for glory with the backing of Millers Oils, Maber Construction, Hysons Chartered Accountants, Vertex VT Consultants, MDH Roofing, Woodstock Plumbing and Heating Supplies, Omnific Civil Engineering, Childsey, Q Barriers and the Pool Lift Company.

Harry Hickton: “It’s essentially been two months since we were last racing in the MINI CHALLENGE so to say that I’m excited to get back behind the wheel is probably a huge understatement.

“We demonstrated that we have the capability of running at the very front of the field during the first half of the season but for some reason things didn’t go our way. That’s how it goes sometimes but importantly, we’re focused on not letting it happen again in the remaining rounds.

“As a circuit, there really is nowhere like Knockhill. It’s one of the those tracks where you can gain lots of time by really attacking, however if you attack just a little bit too much then your lap time can be ruined. The car is always on a knife-edge, which is part of why I love it so much.

“Nailing a lap will be super important in qualifying. Like every round, we’ll aim to tick that box first and then go from there. I’m feeling confident that we can be in the mix for some silverware across the weekend though.”

Qualifying for the MINI CHALLENGE JCWs goes down at 11:50 on Saturday before the opening encounter takes place later that afternoon at 16:45. Two more races - at 11:55 and 15:25 - will follow on Sunday, forming part of the live television coverage on ITV4 and ITVX.
