Harry Hickton Ready To Resume Battle At Donington Park GP

Harry Hickton will look to maintain his high-flying form in the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE Trophy this weekend (24-25 August) when the series heads to Donington Park GP for the fourth event of the 2024 season.

Returning to action after more than a two-month hiatus, the Westbourne Motorsport driver sets course for the Leicestershire venue looking to consolidate his lead in both the overall Drivers’ Championship and the Graduate Cup.

The 18-year-old - who is backed by Hysons Chartered Accountants, The Platform Lift Company, Vernham Labels, Addventure, Woodstock, Hippo Campers and Brandfixx - was the driver to beat during the first half of the campaign as he scored three wins and a further two podium finishes.

Those results, in addition to a number of other points-scoring drives, have put Hickton in the pound seat as the one-make category kicks off the second half of the season with another appearance on the coveted British Touring Car Championship support bill.

“Thruxton feels like such a long time ago so it’s good that we’re getting back to it this weekend,” said Hickton. “Despite the break, I feel really sharp as I’ve had the benefit of being out in cars in both Britcar and the Classic Touring Car Racing Club in recent weeks.

“Hopefully that seat time can ensure that we hit the ground running on Saturday morning; that’s going to be vitally important given how competitive the championship is this year. Qualifying will be make or break I think.

“As a circuit, Donington Park GP is one of the best in the country and as we found out last year, there are plenty of different places to overtake. I know the team are going to give me a fast car so it’ll be on me to deliver the goods.

“I’m feeling confident heading into the weekend and have got a clear target of what I want to achieve; that’s three big points finishes. If they end up coming in the shape of some wins or podiums then that will be even better!”

Qualifying at Donington Park commences on Saturday at 11:35 with race one following later that afternoon at 16:15. Races two and three will then follow on Sunday at 09:30 and 13:45; with the latter being broadcast LIVE on ITV4.
