Harry Hickton will continue his pursuit of the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE Trophy title this coming weekend (7-8 September) as the one-make series heads to Croft Circuit to headline the first-ever British Automobile Racing Club Mini Festival.
The Westbourne Motorsport driver sets course for the North Yorkshire venue holding a one-point lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship after producing one of the best performances of his fledgling career to-date less than a fortnight ago at Donington Park.
Taking centre stage on the support bill of the British Touring Car Championship in front of a capacity crowd, the 18-year-old bounced back from a lowly qualifying to charge through the pack and score a fourth win of the season and additional podium finish.
Those results for Hickton – who is backed by Hysons Chartered Accountants, The Platinum Lift Company, Vernham Labels, Addventure, Woodstock, Hippo Campers and Brandfixx – ensured he maintained his position at the summit of the leaderboard.
Now, as the popular tin top category prepares to provide wheel-to-wheel entertainment across two packed days that are dedicated just to Minis, Hickton has his sights firmly set on clinching more front-running results.
“Donington Park was a huge weekend for me and it could turn out to be significant come the end of the season,” said Hickton. “Qualifying towards the back of the grid wasn’t part of the plan but I’m glad we were able to fight back in the manner we did.
“Whilst it is nice to be leading, I’m not focusing on the points too much just yet. There is a long way to go and there’s plenty of racing still to be done. Making sure we’re firmly in the hunt for podiums and wins is the focus and that will impact the title race.
“Croft is a very different circuit to Donington Park however it’s one that I really enjoy. The mix of fast flowing, technical corners suits my style so I’m feeling confident that the team will give me a great car and we can challenge for more silverware.
“If I can leave the circuit on Sunday night with three top-five finishes – and even a few podiums – then I’ll be happy. It’s all about positioning ourselves for the home stretch of the championship battle.”
Qualifying at Croft commences on Saturday at 11:15 with race one following later that afternoon at 15:35. Races two and three will then follow on Sunday at 12:30 and 15:30; with all the action being streamed LIVE on the BARC’s official YouTube channel.
